From 20,000 Rides to Local Business Owner

When I picked up my first Uber passenger in 2016, I never imagined it would lead to starting my own transportation company.

At the time, I was simply looking for something new to do. I had spent more than three decades building technology companies and working in the software industry. Driving gave me an opportunity to meet people from all walks of life, hear their stories, and provide a service that genuinely made someone’s day a little easier.

What started as an occasional side activity quickly became something I loved.

Over the next ten years, I completed more than 20,000 passenger trips throughout Central Ohio.

Those thousands of rides taught me far more than how to navigate traffic or find the fastest route to John Glenn Columbus International Airport. They taught me what passengers truly value.

The Things That Matter Most

After thousands of conversations with travelers, several themes came up over and over again.

People wanted to know:

Will my driver actually show up?
Will my flight be monitored?
Is the vehicle clean and comfortable?
Will there be enough room for my luggage?
Will I feel safe traveling alone?
Can I trust the person picking up my parents or my children?

Those concerns have very little to do with transportation.

They have everything to do with trust.

Why I Started Smart Ride Central Ohio

While driving for rideshare companies, I met wonderful passengers every day.

I also saw the limitations of the rideshare model.

Passengers rarely knew who would arrive.

Vehicle quality varied widely.

Availability could change based on demand.

Surge pricing sometimes surprised customers at the worst possible times.

I began to realize there was room for something different.

I wanted to build a service where every customer knew exactly who would be picking them up.

No guessing.

No surprises.

No worrying.

Just dependable, professional transportation.

That vision became Smart Ride Central Ohio.

Every Ride Is Personal

One decision shaped the business from the very beginning.

I would personally drive every reservation.

When you book with Smart Ride Central Ohio, you’re not assigned to whichever driver happens to accept the ride.

You’re riding with me.

I answer the phone.

I respond to your texts.

I schedule your reservation.

I monitor your flight.

And I’m the one who greets you at baggage claim.

That consistency allows me to build relationships with customers rather than simply complete transactions.

Many of my passengers have already become repeat customers, and many others have referred their friends, neighbors, and family members.

Building Something Local

It’s a locally owned business serving the communities where my family has lived for decades.

Whether I’m driving a family to the airport before vacation, helping grandparents visit their grandchildren, transporting a business traveler to an early morning flight, or welcoming someone home after a long trip, I never forget that every ride is important to the person in the back seat.

Looking Ahead

Starting Smart Ride Central Ohio has been one of the most rewarding chapters of my career.

The goal has never been to become the biggest transportation company in Central Ohio.

The goal is to become the one people trust enough to recommend to the people they care about most.
